Sunday Dec. 9th. Skid Row Toy Run.
We were blessed with a cold but sunny day. It had rained heavily the
night before, and during the whole weekend, there was the typical STORM WATCH
warning on the news. Everybody made it on time at the meeting place. We
rode in to the staging area of the ride as a group. A total of 12 members
made this run with a total of 8 rigs in line. Raul and Nieda Jimenez
as well as Ron Gebhart got there shortly before us. The club bought
the pancake breakfast's for the members. Glendale Harley
Davidson's store was open for business. So everybody did a little
window shopping while we were waiting for the run to start. It seems little
everybody ran into![]() ![]()
friends that we have not seen for a while there. Doug got
interviewed by a LA Times reporter. Koz was there with his dog
Mush mush. And typical of most V-twin runs, everybody got excited
when the first Harley started up his engine. It was a good
10 minutes of listening to loud pipes and breathing heavy exhaust fumes
before the run got underway. I have to say that this was one
of the least organized escorted runs That I've ever
done. Wendy and I have done this run for many years and it has
always been a pleasure doing this run. However, this year
was not well organized, and their were volunteers that did the Escort
were less then qualified and extremely discourteous to the car
drivers on the road. NOT THE IMAGE THAT WE WANT TO
EXEMPLIFY! Having said that, once we got to the Fred Jordon
mission the run got back on track. Presents were brought up to
the table and were stacked/piled high like a mountain
top. Ray and Nancie Anderson really got into the spirit of
things. Not only did they ride in on their Harley with
Spaulding sidecar, but they were pulling a trailer full of
toys. Seems that Nancie went a little wild the day before
and bought enough toys for a small army! (Way to go!) So we hung
around for a while as everybody kept piling on more toys for the
kids. Someone mentioned food and as with all good motorcyclist,
our attention turned towards were to go. Since we could not agree
on a lunch place as a group. We all went in different directions.
The weather stayed nice for the rest of the day.
Members that made this run: Doug Bingham, Russ Smith, Andy Takajian, Bob and Pearl Vollrath,
Ron Gebhart, Raul and Nieda Jimenez,
Ray and Nancie Anderson, Wendy and me. BACK ![]() |
